Pakistan Launches ‘Beep Pakistan’: New Messaging App for Secure Communication

Federal Minister Unveils ‘Beep Pakistan

On Monday, Federal Minister for IT Syed Amin Ul Haque introduced ‘Beep Pakistan,’ a new messaging app made to offer a local option to WhatsApp.

This day is significant for Pakistan’s IT sector, as we are introducing Beep Pakistan, our country’s first communication app WhatsApp, for a 30-day trial, Haque announced at the launch event.

Initially, the app will facilitate internal communication between the Ministry of IT and Communication and the National Information Technology Board (NITB). Subsequently, it will improve coordination and efficiency within WhatsApp these organizations. In the second phase, it will extend to all government departments. In the final phase, we will make Beep Pakistan available to the general public across Pakistan.

Haque pointed out that countries like India and Bangladesh have already launched similar alternatives to WhatsApp. Even though we are entering the market a bit later, it’s still better to be late than never. As a result, we are hopeful about the app’s impact, he said.

The app boasts several features including data sharing, audio calls, video calls, and conference calls. Haque highlighted that its major advantage is its security. Beep Pakistan is entirely secure, with its server and source code housed within Pakistan, he said.

He praised the NITB for helping develop this app. He also said, ‘We can now proudly say that Pakistan has its own alternative to WhatsApp.

Ministry’s Recent Achievements WhatsApp

Over the past 3.5 years, the Ministry of IT has launched 83 new projects with an investment of Rs77 billion. focusing on improving connectivity in second- and third-tier cities. Additionally, the ministry has taught digital skills to over 3.3 million children. It has also established three new National Incubation Centers (NICs). Moreover, these centers aim to foster innovation and support emerging tech startups.
