Position: PhD Fellowship in Management of Future Tourism
Location: Faculty of Social Sciences, Norwegian School of Hotel Management

We are seeking dedicated and passionate candidates for a PhD Fellowship in Future Tourism Management at the Norwegian School of Hotel Management, part of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Stavanger (UiS). This position offers an exceptional opportunity for academic growth, leading to a doctoral degree, with a focus on promoting sustainable tourism practices within Norway and beyond.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct independent research as part of a PhD program in Social Sciences, culminating in a dissertation.
  • Engage in coursework relevant to the field of study, amounting to approximately six months of academic work.
  • Participate actively in national and international research communities, sharing findings and contributing to the body of knowledge in tourism and hospitality management.
  • Develop and test interventions aimed at promoting sustainable practices within the Norwegian tourism industry, with potential applications across Scandinavia.
  • Collaborate closely with experienced faculty and contribute to the broader goals of the RESUME Group, focusing on responsible leadership in tourism.

Candidate Requirements:

  • A strong academic background with a completed five-year Master’s degree (3+2) in tourism, hospitality, leadership, sustainable development, or related fields.
  • Proven interest in sustainable development, preferably with experience in the tourism or hospitality sector.
  • Proficiency in both qualitative and quantitative research methods, with the ability to work independently under supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, with additional proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language preferred.
  • Willingness to develop a project proposal within the first three months of the appointment, in collaboration with supervisors.
