ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an advisory urging citizens to exercise caution when Smartphone Purchases, warning against the risk of buying counterfeit or substandard devices.
In a statement released over the weekend, the PTA noted a rising trend of counterfeit and duplicate smartphones flooding the market. To safeguard consumers, the authority provided a series of guidelines for those considering the purchase of a new phone.
The PTA strongly recommended that consumers only buy smartphones from reputable and authorized retailers. They also stressed the importance of ensuring the device includes an active warranty and is sold in its original packaging.
Buyers are encouraged to verify that the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number on the phone matches the IMEI on the box. Additionally, the PTA advised checking for the PTA stamp on the packaging, which indicates that the device has been approved by regulatory authorities.
This advisory comes amid growing concerns about the sale of high-end smartphones at suspiciously low prices, which could signal fraudulent activity or the sale of cloned devices. The PTA warned against being tempted by such deals and recommended thoroughly verifying the authenticity of the product before finalizing any purchase.
Consumers who encounter any issues or suspect fraudulent activity are encouraged to contact the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for further assistance. The PTA emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant and ensuring that any device purchased is both genuine and covered by a valid warranty.
